Hurtigruten – The Spitsbergen Arctic Adventure

A 9-day voyage onboard the MS Nordstjernen featuring expedition guides and PolarCirckel boat landings.

Day 1: Depart the U.S. – Depart the U.S. Monday or Friday transatlantic flights to Oslo from the U.S.

Day 2: Oslo – Transfer from the airport to downtown. Explore the city’s many sites, like the Akershus Fortress.

Day 3: Oslo-Longyearbyen – Monday departure: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Longyearbyen. Mid-afternoon arrival, then dinner and overnight at the Spitsbergen Hotel. Friday departure: After a day at leisure, take an evening flight to Longyearbyen, arriving shortly after midnight.[B]

Day 4: Longyearbyen/Embarkation-Barentsburg-Prins Karls Forland – Your adventure cruise in the Arctic begins now. Monday departure: Tour Longyearbyen, then embark on the MS Nordstjernen in early evening. Friday departure: Embark around noon. Your adventure in the land of jagged peaks begins. Your days of adventure in the Arctic will be filled with sightings of stunning Arctic flora, eagles, puffins, seals, whales, even polar bears. On your way out of the Isfjord, you’ll call at Barentsburg, a Russian mining community, then continue to cruise northward along the breathtaking northern shores of Prins Karls Forland. [B/L/D]

Day 5: Magdalenefjord – Monday departure: Morning arrival in the breathtaking Magdalenefjord. Thousands of rare auks can be found here, and whales can be spotted. Cruise further north in the afternoon, making landings using the fleet of PolarCirkel boats. Friday departure: Weather permitting you sail to the Woodfjord area. In the Lefdefjord you’ll experience the awe-inspiring Monaco glacier via PolarCirkel boat. Depending on ice conditions you’ll cross the 80° parallel and reach Moffen Island. Continue south into the stunning Smeerenburgfjord and Magdalenefjord. [B/L/D]

Day 6: Fjords & Glaciers – Monday departure: Weather permitting you sail to the Woodfjord area. In the Lefdefjord you’ll experience the awe-inspiring Monaco glacier via PolarCirkel boat. Depending on ice conditions you’ll cross the 80° parallel and reach Moffen Island. Continue south into the stunning Smeerenburgfjord and Magdalenefjord. Friday departure: During the day, you’ll travel south making various landings by PolarCirkel boat. In the evening you’ll reach the research center of Ny-Alesund, the northernmost settlement in the world. During the night, proceed along Prins Karls Forland to Longyearbyen. [B/L/D]

Day 7: Longyearbyen/Disembarkation – Monday departure: Visit Ny-Alesund and Blomstrandhamna, then continue south along Prins Karls Forland Island, returning to Longyearbyen after midnight, and spending the night on board. Friday departure: Arrive in the morning at Longyearbyen, and take a guided city tour, including a visit to the Svalbard Museum, with its exhibits of arctic natural history. Transfer to the Spitsbergen Hotel, and enjoy a light lunch. Afternoon free. Farewell dinner at the hotel. [B/L/D]

Day 8: Depart Longyearbyen-Oslo – Transfer to airport for your return flight to Oslo [B]

Day 9: Oslo-Return to the U.S. – Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the U.S. [B]
